GCIA: GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst

The GCIA is widely respected for its deep dive into packet analysis and network traffic forensics. It validates the ability to configure and monitor intrusion detection systems (IDS) like Snort/Suricata and, most importantly, to read and interpret raw network traffic (hex dumps) to identify malicious activity. Candidates must demonstrate an intimate knowledge of the TCP/IP stack, understanding exactly how fragmentation and handshake manipulation can evade detection. It is considered one of the most challenging GIAC exams due to the sheer depth of technical network knowledge required. It is the definitive certification for network security analysts.
