PHYS& 114: General Physics I

The first term of an algebra-based physics sequence with laboratory designed for students in health sciences, architecture, and biology. Covers vector mathematics, one- and two-dimensional kinematics, Newton's laws of motion, frictional forces, circular motion, work, mechanical energy conservation, linear momentum, impulse, rotational kinematics, torque, and static equilibrium.

• Kinematics in 1D and 2D: position, velocity, acceleration vectors, and projectile motion trajectories in PHYS& 114
• Newton's laws of motion: free-body diagrams, static/kinetic friction, circular motion, and centripetal acceleration
• Work, energy, and momentum: work-energy theorem, conservative forces, potential energy curves, and collision conservation laws
• Rotational dynamics and equilibrium: torque, moment of inertia, angular momentum conservation, and static equilibrium in General Physics I
